Travel Tips and Guidelines

 

General Guidelines: 

Trinidad and Tobago is a destination definitely worth the visit and travel documents are required at all ports of entry.
Ports of Entry:- Piarco International Airport; Crown Point International Airport; Port of Port of Spain; Chaguaramas; Scarborough; and Pt Lisas
Because of historical ties and/or bilateral agreements, citizens of certain countries do not need visas once they are travelling to Trinidad and Tobago on vacation or business. These include CARICOM countries and the majority of Commonwealth countries.
The new members of the European Union and the United States of America have specific visa exemptions.

In addition: 

All holders of Organization of American States (OAS) passports do not require visas regardless of their nationality.

Seamen and airline crew regardless of nationality, who are arriving in the country to join their ships, or are in transit
to meet their airline for a return trip are exempted from visa requirements.

Holders of United Nations (Laissez-Passer) passports are subject to normal visa requirements based on nationality.

Holders of Diplomatic Passports are not automatically exempted from visa requirements.

Inter American Institute for Co-operation on Agriculture (IICA): Permanent and temporary staff with evidence of employment are exempted from visa requirements.

Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI):  Bearers of these passports are not required to be in possession of entry visas.

Caricom Nationals:

Nationals of CARICOM countries do not require a visa for entry into
Trinidad and Tobago . They are however expected to provide officers at the ports of entry with information concerning their visit and onward travel arrangements as well as any other relevant information.

Persons who are designated "Skilled Persons" in keeping with the policy relating to free movement of skills are required to obtain certification by the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

U.S. Citizens/European Union Residents/Comonwealth Country Residents /Tourist or Business Travel:

Passport must be valid for 3 months after the last day of your intended date of departure.

 orange bullet icon You must have tickets and documents ready for return or onward travel.

No Visa is required for US Citizens or European Union residents who intend to stay a maximum of 3 months.

However, if you wish to travel to Trinidad and Tobago for any other reason for e.g.: employment, adoption, study, immigration or a stay longer than a 3-month period, please contact your relevant embassy.

 

Visitors who require a visa to travel to Trinidad and Tobago:


Non-U.S. Citizens/ Non European Union Residents/ Other Visitors

Tourist or Business Travel:

-

Passport must be valid for at least a further 6 months

-

2  completed and signed Visa Application Forms

-

2 Passport-size photographs, taken within the last 3 months.

-

Copy of airline tickets denoting round trip airfare

-

If a permanent resident of the US, a photocopy of your Green Card
   
 

Business

  Same as above
  In addition, a letter of financial responsibility is required, typewritten on the company letterhead and signed by a company officer other than the applicant, explaining:

The purpose of the trip

 -

 The company reference to be visited

A Traveler must declare currency or monetary instruments in excess of      US$ 5,000.00 or TT$20,000.00

Any false declaration is an offence against Section 212 of the Customs Act, and may incur a penalty of one hundred and twenty five thousand Trinidad and Tobago dollars (TT$125,000) and/or forfeiture of the articles involved.

The importation of Camouflage Pattern Materials is illegal unless the Minister of National Security certifies that the importation is for the use of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.

   
 

Under Sec 213 of the Customs Act Chapter 78:01

To import Camouflage contrary to the prohibition above.

To knowingly harbour, keep, conceal or cause to be harboured, kept or concealed any prohibited goods.

To knowingly acquire possession of, or carry, remove, deposit or in any manner deal with any goods to evade any prohibition applicable to the goods.

 To sell, offer for sale or expose for sale any goods which are prohibited.

   
 

The Penalty is:

 

in the case of a first offence, twenty five thousand Trinidad and Tobago dollars, or triple the value of the goods whichever is the greater and imprisonment for six (6) months,

 

in the case of a second or subsequent offence, one hundred thousand Trinidad and Tobago dollars or triple the value of the goods whichever is the greater and imprisonment for one year,

  and for feature of the goods.

YELLOW FEVER

You will need a vaccination certificate for Yellow Fever if you are arriving from an infected area within a 5- day time period.

SWINE FLU

All passengers should be advised that with the advent of Swine Flu in many parts of the world, the following steps are required for all airlines, passengers and crews entering Trinidad and Tobago by air from any international/ regional destination:

  • Each passenger and crew member on board must be issued by the airline with an “Acute Respiratory Illness Surveillance” Declaration form.
     
  • All passengers and crew must complete the “Acute Respiratory Illness Surveillance” declaration form. This form is to be presented to a Port Health Officer upon entry into Piarco or Crown Point airports.
     
  • All airlines should issue Surgical Masks to all passengers and crew in the event of a situation on board that would warrant the issuance of these masks. There will be hand sanitizers available to all persons on board to use as required.
     
  • An announcement will be made on the public address (PA) system providing arriving passengers of the Health requirements at the Ports of entry into Trinidad and Tobago.
